My brother went to a larger secular university, where in a few of his classes, he turned in papers that went with a Christian worldview, and the professor gave him a bad grade because he just didn’t like it. Professors there teach with a worldly worldview. However, professors here and at other Christian universities will teach not only what is in the Bible, but they will also give you reasons and opportunities that you can do that in your [future] workplace.

Coming to BUF is different from playing in other places that I’ve already been to and my friends have already been to as well. Here we have another goal. In some other schools, our main goal is just volleyball 24/7, which can be very exhausting when you’re an athlete and specifically a Christian, but you don’t have time to practice your faith. So, in other places that I’ve been to, that was never a priority, being a Christian, and I felt very tired - mentally tired, you know? Coming to BUF gave me exactly what I needed in terms of playing volleyball and keeping my focus on God. It just gave me the right match.

While I was at my last institution, I knew I loved God, and I wanted to do what he had called me to do, but there was a lack of spiritual discipline while I was there. I made basketball an idol. Instead of using my time there to grow in my faith, I made it more about myself… Since arriving at BUF, the people that I’ve surrounded myself with have pushed me to Christ and have pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. They’ve encouraged me to no longer hide behind the scenes, but to actively pursue Him in any area that I can.

I really like the small-town feel. I’m from Marianna, so it’s already small. I like how everybody knows each other here. Not only am I getting to play softball and get my degree, but I also get to grow in my faith and be surrounded by other believers.
